Here are a few events happening in Strathmore and the surrounding area this weekend.

1. Strathmore Spartans vs. Willow Creek Cobras

The Strathmore Spartans boys' football team will be playing a home game against the Willow Creek Cobras on Friday (Sept. 27) evening.

Starting at 5 p.m., the event kicks off at the Strathmore High School football field.

The Spartans have yet to win a game this season as they've four games in a row, not including the preseason.

The event is free to attend and open to all ages.

2. Mama's Greek Kouzina Grand Opening

Mama's Greek Kouzina, a Greek-styled restaurant located at Third Avenue in downtown Strathmore is having a grand opening ceremony on Saturday.

The event will include complimentary cupcakes, tours of the restaurant, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Pat Fule. 

Although the restaurant has been open since June 25, the owners have not done their grand opening yet. The ceremony follows their monthly Greek Night event, which takes place on the last Friday of every month.

3. Vault Cultural Collective announces Art Contest winner

The Vault Cultural Collective is announcing the winner of their annual People's Choice Art Contest.

The artwork has been on display at the vault since September 9, with residents voting on which art piece they like the most. 

At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, the winners will be announced at the vault. Categories include children 12 and under, teenagers, and adults 19 and older.

There is also a category for 'plein air', which is art painted outdoors.

4. Alberta Culture Days Festival 

Saturday also marks the Alberta Culture Days Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Kinsmen Park.

The festival is part of a month-long celebration of community spirit, arts, and heritage. There will be live music, cultural booths, and interactive displays. 

The event was put together by Strathmore Family and Community Support Services.

5. Third Avenue after Dark

All of Third Avenue will be closed to traffic on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the upcoming 'Third Avenue After Dark' night market. 

Previously called 'Downtown After Dark', this event features local food trucks and downtown businesses showing off their wares for residents to check out and purchase.

Some of the businesses at the event include Lil' Hoots, Main Street Market, Willow Tree, and more.
