After two and a half years of dedicated fundraising efforts, the first phase of Rosetown’s all-inclusive playground project is finally taking shape. The installation of the play structure marks a significant milestone for the community, as it will be the first all-inclusive playground not only in Rosetown but also in the entire West Central Saskatchewan region.
The construction took place over the weekend of September 27-29, with the PlayQuest crew leading the installation alongside a team of enthusiastic volunteers. Their hard work and commitment have set the stage for a playground designed to accommodate children of all abilities, fostering inclusivity and ensuring that everyone can enjoy outdoor play.
In a show of community spirit, the upcoming 2024 Rosetown Ladies Night Out has designated the Kinsmen Club of Rosetown as the premier recipient for this year's event. The funds raised from the Ladies Night Out will go towards further development of the all-inclusive playground, helping to realize the vision of a space that caters to all children.
“There's nothing quite like the support found in small rural communities,” said a local organizer. “This project brings everyone together to focus on a common goal, and it’s heartwarming to see the community rally behind it.”
While phase one focuses on the installation of the play structure, plans for phase two are already in the works. This next stage will include the addition of a freestanding and accessible merry-go-round, shade structure, picnic tables, bench seating, and accessible pathways to ensure all children can navigate the playground with ease.
The all-inclusive playground represents a significant step towards creating an environment where children of all abilities can play together, learn from one another, and enjoy the outdoors. With the community's support and ongoing fundraising efforts, Rosetown is poised to set a precedent for inclusivity in the region, proving that together, small communities can achieve great things.
