With the provincial election campaign now underway, the people of Saskatchewan will get to cast their ballots on October 28th. Over the course of the next 27 days, candidates in 61 ridings will be vying for the votes of the electorate, with the parties outlining how they will best tackle the issues facing the province.

The question is, what are the issues facing the province according to the people of Saskatchewan?

In September, we put up a poll asking you to tell us what you thought the issues facing the province were, and which of the issues are currently being ignored. This was an informal poll, and while it isn’t the same as a formal, scientific poll, it did give some insight into what the people of the province are thinking.

We received responses from across the province, and 77.2 per cent of those who took part said health care was a key issue facing the province as we head into the election. Of all those who took part in the poll, 71.8 per cent said health care was not being addressed right now.

Of all the responses to the multiple choice questions, 60.3 per cent said education was one of the biggest issues and 59.4 per cent said affordability. This was followed by 48.9 per cent saying accountability of elected officials, and 35.8 per cent saying transparency in government.

As for what issues are not being addressed, aside from healthcare 60.6 per cent said education is not being addressed properly right now, and 55.3 per cent said affordability. 55.5 per cent say the accountability of elected officials isn’t being addressed, with 46.3 per cent saying transparency in government.

Over the coming weeks, we will continue to keep you up to date with the latest from the campaign trail, both at the provincial level, as well as in your riding.
