Best-selling and award-winning Christian author, podcaster and artist, Ruth Chou Simons is praising God as her son continues to heal following a serious mountain biking incident.
One week ago, Simon's son, Judah was out on a trail with his brother Liam, when he was involved in a horrific crash.
"He was flown off the trail directly to a hospital and then transferred to a trauma center," said Chou Simons in a post on Instagram.
She said, at the time he had multiple fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, and internal bleeding, but he had feeling in his legs.
"The docs say that Liam’s foresight to keep him still likely kept him from nerve damage and potential paralysis."
He had spinal surgery the following day, and just one week out from the crash, Judah is back home.
"It felt like my worst fears coming true when the neurosurgeon said it was one of the most complex and difficult surgeries he’s ever done," Chou Simons explained. "We, and everyone in the OR, collectively held our breath as we faced the possibility of paralysis for our son."
However, Judah came out of surgery, still able to feel his legs.
"God, in his kindness, was writing a different story. I’ve never experienced wiggling toes as such a beautiful sight in all my life."
The road ahead is a long one, according to Ruth, however, she says they are blessed beyond measure.
This traumatic event took place the same week she launched her first children's book, Home is Right Where You Are.
"This past week— through the highs and lows, I had an opportunity to see the message of HIRWYA play out in ways I never expected: Wherever you go and whatever you do, you’ll never outrun the grace and care of God."
