The Sun West School Division will receive a $100,000 grant from the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Foundation for the 2024-25 school year, continuing its support of mental wellness programming that has been in place for the past several years. This grant will enable the division to offer ten pilot schools the opportunity to participate in a series of mental wellness skill development workshops aimed at students over the age of 15.
The workshops will be held in five Indigenous Northern, remote, and isolated communities across the province, as well as five communities within the Sun West School Division. Each participating school will host a full-day, in-person session, equipping students with proactive tools and strategies to enhance their financial literacy, nutrition, relationships, mental health, and overall well-being.
Partnering with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the program is designed to help students develop essential life skills as they transition to post-secondary education or the workforce. It also aims to reduce barriers such as stigma and accessibility, providing tailored workshops that address the specific needs of each community.
The program's success is evident, with more than 2,000 students and adult allies benefiting from last year's workshops. The Sun West School Division is eager to continue this important partnership with the RBC Foundation and support the well-being of students throughout the region.
By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, this initiative is helping students build resilience and develop healthier habits, ensuring a brighter future for Saskatchewan's youth.
