The annual scare fest that’s become a spooky season specialty at the Humboldt Vintage Club is back full of even further frights. The Festival of Frights crew is busy prepping the area’s premier haunted house experience. The show kicks off Saturday, October 12, with performances on Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19, and again the following weekend on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 24 – 26.
The Festival of Frights had its origins with Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt as a fundraiser. The BBBS crew teamed up with the newly formed Humboldt Lions Club for an even spookier experience. Now the Humboldt Lions Club has taken the reins, fundraising for various projects with a portion of the proceeds going to BBBS.
With new volunteers and new ideas, the Festival of Frights has grown each year bringing on board more artists, actors, designers and eerie engineers, explains Shaun Futoransky with the Lions and the Festival.
“I have to say the plans for this year are going to be – very interesting. Full of spooks and frights.”
To maintain a spoiler free experience, Futoransky and crew are tight lipped about the exact nature of those frights, but anyone who has experienced the fright fest in previous years will tell you, it’s going to be hard to up the ante. But that’s what this year’s organizers intend to do.
“We’re making it bigger. It’s continuing to evolve. There are a lot of people raring to go with scaring people – putting the costumes together. It does take a Hallowe’en spirited energy to get it all together.”
Set up has already started on this year’s design out at the vintage club, but Futoransky says there’s still time for people to get involved as volunteers. Other groups are pitching in to support the Festival of Frights and generate their own revenue in different ways.
There’s a photo booth onsite to capture the experience and concessions each night of operation thanks to Calico Gymnastics and the Cadets.
“A couple of nights we have tarot readings with the Wren Witch from Lake Lenore and Soul Tree Meditation from Saskatoon.”
Organizers are also putting plans in place to give away five sets of tickets, so stay connected with the Festival of Frights Facebook page for details on giveaways, prices, and all the creepy developments the group has in store for this October out at the Vintage Club.
