The grand opening of Kindersley's new RCMP detachment marked a historic day, as local officers, dressed in their formal red serge, proudly marched the Canadian flag from the old detachment to the new one. This symbolic procession was a powerful visual of tradition, service, and renewal. Commanding Officer of Saskatchewan RCMP, Rhonda Blackmore, who shared the significance of the moment, saying, "The connection between the two detachments symbolizes and renews our commitment to the communities we provide service to."
As the flag was raised to the sound of "O Canada," the ceremony shifted to a moment of cultural connection. Tyson Wuttunee and Marcella Bird from the Cree Nation offered a prayer and presented an eagle feather to the detachment. Marcella explained the importance of the invitation to participate, saying, "To be invited to where the red coats are—because they are the protectors, the Queen's men, in the treaty promised to protect our people—it's a great honour and shows respect." The gesture reflected the RCMP’s bond with the Indigenous community and emphasized mutual respect and collaboration.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the public was invited to tour the modern facility, enjoying a lunch hosted in the courtyard. Corporal Amy Blyth, the detachment commander, expressed her excitement during an interview. "We are so beyond thrilled to be in the new building and to finally celebrate with the community," she said. "The extra space, resources, and training opportunities this building allows us are something we’ve looked forward to for so long. The turnout today is amazing, and we're very happy to share this day with everyone."
The community eagerly toured the new building, with many visitors particularly interested in seeing the cell block, a highlight of the day’s tour. Corporal Blyth noted the excitement and curiosity, adding, "It makes me happy to be able to share it with everyone."
