Saturday (Oct. 5) marked Customer Appreciation Day at Strathmore's Peavey Mart.
To show their appreciation, the hardware store held a community BBQ alongside Rescued Paws, a family-run facility that works on saving pets and giving them a 'furever' home.
"I took over the business nine months ago," said Alicia O'Keefe, director of Rescued Paws. "It's been a journey. There's a lot of things I've had to learn, but I absolutely love it."
Seven dogs in need of a new home were outside of Peavey Mart. The furry friends were all from the same litter and were taken in by the organization from a breeder just outside of Strathmore.
"We try to tie it into events in town, so it gets more people out to see the dogs," added O'Keefe. "I go to Pet Value quite frequently, and we also do a few at Pet Planet for their Treat Thursdays."
There was a good turnout at the event, according to O'Keefe. By the time the BBQ was winding down, around 80 hamburgers and hot dogs were given out to hungry residents.
"We're also getting lots of donations, which really helps."
Rescued Paws is foster-based and has been reaching out to the Town of Strathmore as they look for a building to operate out of. The group is a branch of the Alpine View Pet Spa.
