October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That’s why now, throughout the month of October, Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz will be donating 10% of all their clothing sales to Central Plains Cancer Services.
Kyle and Alicia Pettinger own the popular Portage-based flower and gift boutique. They say that the local nonprofit is important to them, because they provide valuable programs and services to those facing cancer in the region.
“Cancer affects everyone in some way, and the programs at CPCS make a real difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families,” shares Alicia. “From providing information, to driving them to and from life-saving treatments – just walking alongside them through their journey.”
Kyle points out that Central Plains Cancer Services relies on donations, and highlights the CPCS transportation program and its value to the community.
“When someone has cancer, they often have to go to a lot of treatment appointments in Winnipeg multiple times a week. Without Central Plains Cancer Services, that would be not only a huge cost, but also additional stress – with navigating unfamiliar city streets, finding parking, all when you’re not feeling good. The transportation program takes those stresses away, so cancer patients can maybe rest a bit and focus on getting better. It’s a very real help, in a very practical way. And we want to support that.”
As the name implies, Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz carries beautiful flowers, but also much more. Step inside and you’ll find an array of ladies clothing in favourite brands like Renaur, Charlie Paige, and TRIBAL.
Speaking of TRIBAL…
“This month, with a clothing purchase, you can enter to win a TRIBAL outfit!” shares Alicia. “Just come in, purchase clothes – they can even be from our sale rack – and 10% of the sale will be donated to Central Plains Cancer Services.”
Donating to support local charities is nothing new for the Pettingers.
“We have been donating 10% of our clothing proceeds to CPCS every October for probably about five years now,” reveals Alicia.
“Mil-Jeanne Flowers has been part of this community for a long time, and we feel it’s so important to give back to organizations that help people in our community who are affected by cancer,” relates Kyle.
“Helping our community benefits everyone in the long run,” adds Alicia.
Mil-Jeanne Flowers & Axcenz is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., closed Sundays. You can learn more by visiting their website.
