Rob Carnie: Another issue our local folks are talking about Maurice, the Stadacona Apartments, at last where this issue was still tied up in red tape with the province. Is that correct?
Maryse Carmichael: We're getting closer as well to an answer on this one. We've been in discussion with the province on this. There's one last hurdle to go through and then the city should have ownership of the building.
Once we have ownership, we will have our building officials go through the building and then we'll decide afterwards what we want to do with it. Whether it's a good salvageable building or if it's to be demolished.
Rob: Yeah, and that building was a very nice apartment building many years ago, sits at the corner of Stadacona St. West and 1st Ave. Northwest and we boarded it up quite some time ago.
Maryse: There was a gas leak, which was the main factor (that made the firefighters decide to evacuate the building) almost a year ago to the day.
From what we know from back then, the building has really good bones. It's in good condition. Of course, there would need to be some repairs, but so we're hopeful that yes, as you mentioned, it is one of the landmarks in the city.
So, we are hopeful that we can then sell it and use it because we do need housing.
Rob: Yeah, that would be great.
