Cody Miller is an avid fan of all things miniature figure painting.
Miller says he's been painting for over eight years and got into the hobby when he was out of work at the time.
He says he played Dungeons and Dragons for a while and added that people can buy the generic figures, but he ended up finding unpainted ones of the characters he was playing.
"I started by watching some YouTube videos, kind of learning from there."
Miller explained that painting is quite detail-oriented and intricate. He says the hobby helps him zone out and focus on something within his control and relax.
The hobbyist is hosting a painting event on Friday (Oct. 18) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wheatland Society of Arts.
During a previous course, Miller said people would have about two hours to paint figures.
He says most of the people were able to paint one and even two figures by the end of the session.
Miller mentioned there's a huge following for games like Warhammer and Dungeons and Dragons in Strathmore.
The miniature figure painter says if he has around 100 miniatures in a Warhammer board, the rank and file might get 45 minutes of painting each, while a bigger character can take up to 30 hours.
"You can put infinite time into a single figure. Some people paint professionally for contests like Golden Demon and things like that which are world-class painters and paint jobs on these figures," states Miller. "They can spend upwards of 1,000 hours on a single miniature."
"It's a good way to paint your own and have it reflect you and your character, or your army, or whatever it is you're doing in the games," says Miller.
According to Miller, all equipment for the event will be provided.
