With temperatures reaching into the minuses overnight, harvest season has been winding down over the last few weeks.

James Agnew, a local producer with Mullen Farms, spoke about this year's harvest.

"We grow wheat, barley, oats, and canola, and cow-calf commercial herd," said Agnew. "We seed in the first part of May and harvest in September."

According to Agnew, there were a few setbacks throughout the season, including the extreme heat over the summer.

"The hot spell in July kind of set us back," added Agnew. "The rain helped a little bit with the canola and rotted the straw down a bit. It also gave us a few days off here and there."

Agnew was present at the 2024 Harvest Dinner, hosted at the Strathmore Legion on Thursday (Oct. 10).

Agnew said that overall, it was a pretty normal season for Mullen Farms.

"It wasn't terrible," said Agnew. "It was another good year, and hopefully next year is good too."

Mullen Farms is located northeast of Strathmore near Rockyford.
