A fertilizer spill near Balgonie temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 46 on Saturday, according to White Butte RCMP. Authorities responded to the spill, which occurred at the Highway 1 overpass, and reported that no fire or injuries were associated with the incident. However, the spilled fertilizer was classified as hazardous material, prompting warnings for those in the immediate area to exercise caution.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 46 remained closed for several hours as clean-up crews worked to clear the hazardous material. The clean-up extended to areas around both the Highway 1 and Highway 10 overpasses, with motorists facing delays throughout the process.

As of Sunday, the RCMP confirmed that the highway had been reopened and the clean-up completed. Authorities reminded motorists to stay informed through the Highway Hotline for updates.
