Efforts to build a new all-wheel park and recreation area in Kindersley are well underway, with significant community support and fundraising progress. Organizers have raised $350,000 in the past three weeks, moving closer to their $1.2 million goal. The planned outdoor facility will feature a concrete skate park, green space for families, and lights for the dog park.
Tyrone Kennedy-Bush, the project's lead organizer, emphasized the importance of the facility, saying, "It'll be great for the community to have a place where people can come for free, enjoy themselves, and utilize it year-round. We’re also aiming to make it wheelchair accessible so everyone can participate."
The park, which will be located between Ditson and the dog park near the golf course, is designed to offer about 12,000-13,000 square feet of skateable terrain, with room for landscaping and future development. "We’re also planning to install ramps and rails that can be used in winter for snowboarding practice, making the space useful in all seasons," Kennedy-Bush added.
The project is expected to benefit the entire community, providing a safe and engaging space for outdoor activities. Kennedy-Bush also mentioned that lights would make the dog park usable later in the day, especially as the winter months bring earlier sunsets.
The project is being entirely funded through community donations and fundraising efforts, with no government support. Local volunteers, such as Stephanie Vandewiele and Krista Giefer, have played key roles in organizing events, including a successful fundraising drive during the Goose Festival Parade last month.
As fundraising continues, Kennedy-Bush is seeking additional help with grant writing, social media, and other aspects of the project. "We’ve had amazing support so far, but we still need help in a few areas to keep this momentum going," he noted.
The Kindersley All-Wheel Park aims to be a lasting community asset, designed to last 50 years with minimal maintenance. "Compared to other large community projects, this is a very cost-effective one," said Kennedy-Bush. "It’s a space that will bring joy to families and kids for generations."
