A local business helped raise food donations for a good cause earlier this month.

The Garden Cannabis Company held its Five Year Food Drive, with customers getting a deal on products for a food bank donation. The fundraiser ended on Monday (Oct. 14).

"We had discounts on our system, so each piece of food was worth one point. When you had 10 points you got 10 per cent off your purchase," said Brook Pries, co-owner of the company. "We kind of made it a win-win for people."

By the end of the fundraiser, the company had raised almost 50 pounds of food, which will be dropped off at the Wheatland County Food Bank along with a cash donation.

"I've had the same initiative all year long celebrating our five years of business in Strathmore, and we wanted to give back to our community as well," added Pries.

To celebrate half a decade in Strathmore, the company also held a party on April 20 and joined the Strathmore Stampede Parade, with their float winning third place

"We just really found a home in Strathmore. Our kids go to school here, and we've been in the area for 13 years now. We love the support we're getting from the community."

Items donated included canned soups, pasta, snacks, baking ingredients, and condiments.

Pries co-owns the company with her husband Cole. They opened their doors to the public in 2019.
