AI can be a touchy subject, especially when it comes to its place in the church.
Jason Moore author of AI and the Church: A Clear Guide for the Curious and Courageous says AI is neither inherently good nor inherently evil. He says it is a neutral tool capable of achieving remarkable feats when used wisely.
Moore has hands-on experience in the local church, giving him a deep understanding of the concerns ministry leaders and congregants have when introducing new technology such as AI.
“My goal is to help readers view AI not as a threat but as a useful and impactful tool for the Church,” Moore explained.
He says there are many positive ways to use AI in the church.
"I'm a big fan of pastors using AI to help write a sermon, for research, for asking clarifying questions, and that kind of thing," Moore explained. "I'm not a big fan of asking AI to write a sermon for you."
According to Moore, it can also assist with administrative tasks, translating messaging into other languages, designing sermon series graphics, and other media and generating discussion questions for Bible study groups.
"It's a great time saver, "said Moore. “With thoughtful consideration and ethical usage, I am convinced that AI could be a game-changer for the church."
AI and the Church: A Clear Guide for the Curious and Courageous officially hit bookshelves nationwide on Oct. 15.
