The Strathmore Spartans won their first home game of the season last week.
The high school football team played a game in town against the Bowness Trojans on October 10. The bout ended with a 26-17 victory for the Spartans.
Head coach Danny Warrack said the Trojans are at the top of Division Two in the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association.
"It was great to see. We had three offensive touchdowns," said Warrack. "We also made two field goals, and one was 45 yards."
The 45-yard field goal, which Uwana Nkaang made, was the longest field goal for the Spartans in the last nine years, according to Warrack.
"There were lots of positives in the game, but we still have some work to do. Specifically cleaning up our punting and punt return game."
Warrack called the win a 'step in the right direction' as the Spartans prepare for a game on Friday (Oct. 18) against the Foothills Falcons.
"I know last year they were in the Tier One finals and ended up losing a close game," said Warrack. "They've got a good, fast quarterback and a competent offense and defensive line."
Warrack said that the Falcons appear to be getting better every week and that they will be a tough matchup for the Spartans.
The game will be hosted in Okotoks at Foothills Composite High School at 6 p.m.
