Harry “Toby” Joseph Tobias passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the age of 79 years. Toby was born on December 29, 1944, in a small town outside of Vienna, Austria to mother Giselle, his birth father was tragically killed during World War II. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of five years, his mother remarried, and he gained a stepfather Ernest Tobias. He attended elementary school and high school in Regina, graduating two years early at the age of 16 years. He left home and settled in Lajord, SK, working at the Bank of Commerce. Toby joked that he was the “Assistant Manager” of the 2 man branch. He moved with his family to Swift Current and had a partnership owning and operating a credit bureau business, constantly advancing his career in this field. Toby relocated to Moose Jaw where he ended up owning and operating multiple bureaus. He was able to retire early at the age of 45 years. In 1997, Lynn and Toby owned and operated a senior care home, retiring in 2005.
Toby was predeceased by his loving wife Lynn Tobias in 2023. Toby loved his family and took pride in all his children. He leaves behind his son John and his wife Sheila; daughter Nancy and her partner Chad; son Quenton; much loved grandchildren Alex and Nicole; sister Donna Tobias; brother in-law John and his wife Georgette; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends, he is going to be greatly missed.
Toby was passionate about gardening, especially his gladiolas. He loved animals and was an advocate and friend of the Regina Humane Society for many years.
Celebration of Toby’s Life will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society at 4900 Parliament Avenue, Regina, SK, S4W 0T7.
