Strathmore Town Council listened to a report discussing the 2024 Citizen Satisfaction Survey.

During a meeting on Wednesday (Oct. 16), results were shared about the quality of life of Strathmore residents.

A total of 3946 households were invited to take part in the survey. According to the report, 1,491 responses were tallied.

The survey was done by Framework Analytics Inc., a Calgary-based company.

Lachlan Milne, a senior analyst with the organization says the quality of life has dropped by five per cent since 2022 for Strathmore residents. However, it isn't bad compared to how the country is doing.

"If you were to look at the overall average in Canada over the same time it's been a 10 per cent drop."

Milne highlighted results showcasing the quality of life for different generations in Strathmore including, Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Boomers.

Results from the report say Gen Z and Boomers experience the highest quality of life at 89 per cent and 84 per cent compared to Millennials and Gen X at 75 per cent and 77 per cent.

"Those 30 to 55-year-olds are experiencing this crisis the most," added Milne.

The top five biggest issues Strathmore residents are facing include infrastructure, affordability, housing, taxes, road maintenance, and snow removal.

Councillor Jason Montgomery asked Milne why infrastructure was top of mind for the public.

Milne remarked it could be a diverse range of issues like water infrastructure and roads.

The survey also looked at what people like about living in Strathmore.

A few answers included being in a small town, having a good group of friends, and seeing a clean town.

The report also discussed what Strathmore residents want to see more of in the community.

"They want more amenities, they want it to be more affordable, they want it to be less crime," explained Milne.

Councillor Brent Wiley asked if the changes have anything to do with a demographic shift.

"We know so many people are coming out from Calgary. For them, amenities aren't a big deal," said Wiley. "Maybe for them, it's not that crime has decreased in Strathmore, it's that compared to Calgary, is that possible?"

In response, Milne mentioned Strathmore has had a large increase in new residents.

"If people are moving from Calgary, if they're moving from Ontario, you guys look great in comparison for all the things they may move here for."

One of the questions also asked residents about the value they receive for their fees in Strathmore.

"If you are happy with the value for your money, 97 per cent report they have a very good quality of life," says Milne.
