A new way of celebrating Halloween is coming to Strathmore and Wheatland County.

Accessible trick or treating aims to bring a more inclusive way of celebrating the day.

The point of the event is setting up either on your driveway or front path instead of at the front door, which may have chairs and is harder for kids with disabilities to use.

Carey Rose, a local realtor for the Reps at RE/MAX explained how the idea came to fruition.

"We are getting involved in treat accessibility on Halloween night. There's a family out of Quebec that started this in 2017, and they just thought, boy, wouldn't it be nice if children with disabilities got to trick-or-treat and have fun?"

"It was really simple the way they started it and they've grown it into partnerships with RE/MAX."

Residents in Strathmore, Wheatland County, Rocky View County, Langdon, and Chestermere can pick up signs to display that homes are participating in accessible trick or treating.

"Just pick up one of these signs from us. They're free. You can pick them up at participating pet value stores or the RE/MAX Key Office," said Rose.

There are three locations around Strathmore and the area participating in accessible trick or treating and they are located at:

  • 1041 Hillcrest Manor Estates Strathmore.
  • 66 Brander Ave Langdon.
  • 519 East Chestermere Drive Chestermere.
