It was a unique LEGO experience for brick-building enthusiasts in Calgary this past weekend at the University of Calgary's MacEwan Hall.
Michael Tyess, one of the organizers for Brick Roundup 2024, says hobbyists from all across North America were invited to showcase their best LEGO displays.
"We had 57 builders with over 300 custom builds."
During the two-day event, over 1,300 guests attended.
According to Tyess, builders came from Lacombe, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, and Vancouver, and one person made it from California.
There were multiple categories and trophies for best builds, including space and science fiction, pop culture, buildable figures, and art and mosaic categories.
"We had a 12-foot-long Lord of the Rings Mines of Moria. We had a 1980s-inspired Miami city called Trouble in Paradisa," mentioned Tyess.
The popularity of Lego has seen a big boom in adult builders according to Tyess.
"It's not just a hobby, for kids, it's a hobby for all ages."
So far there are no official dates for Brick Roundup 2025, but the event will return.
