With Monday's sudden snowfall, it's time to start getting ready for a tire change.
Zegil Automotive & Transmission in Strathmore has seen an increase in traffic as drivers look to replace their winter tires and purchase new batteries.
"We've also seen a lot more vehicles having issues starting already," said Cassidy Davies, lead service writer with Zegil. "Usually, the older batteries need to be replaced because they don't have enough power to get moving. Things also just start to get cold and frail."
According to Davies, many residents prepare ahead of time for winter tire changes, while others tend to wait until after the snow has already fallen.
"This year we've been steady through the whole year. We usually see a decline around the summertime."
The tread is the main difference between summer and winter tires, while some of the latter include studs to help drivers move through the ice.
Davies also suggested that residents check their fluids and coolant to make sure that they're appropriate for the cold temperatures.
"We do charging system checks here so we can see if there are any weak points in it," added Davies. "We can also make sure you have good tires on."
The next double-digit daytime high is on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 15°C.
