The Kids Academy project in Kindersley is one step closer to reality, thanks to an overwhelmingly generous $250,000 commitment from the Kindersley & District Co-op. This multi-room contribution will significantly advance the daycare initiative, which aims to address the critical childcare shortage in the community.
The Co-op became involved in June after General Manager Blair Ferner attended an information session hosted by the Kindersley Chamber of Commerce. Recognizing the impact of the daycare shortage on local businesses, especially large employers like the Co-op, the organization quickly expressed interest in supporting the project. In August, the Kids Academy team made a presentation to the Co-op’s Board of Directors, who were not only open to learning more but also eager to contribute.
In September, Kids Academy was named the recipient of the proceeds from Fuel Good Day, raising over $2,700. Shortly after, the Co-op announced their significant $250,000 donation, reaffirming their commitment to the project.
Monique Neigum, a leader in the Kids Academy initiative, expressed deep gratitude for the Co-op’s support, noting that it not only provides financial backing but also adds credibility to the project. "The Co-op's involvement shows just how urgent the need for daycare is in Kindersley. Their support has been a game changer for us," Neigum said.
The Kids Academy project, which aims to raise $4 million, has already secured nearly $2.25 million. The goal is to break ground in Spring 2025 and open the daycare centre by Fall 2026. The response from the community and corporate sponsors has been overwhelmingly positive, and the team continues to seek additional multi-year commitments.
