A crash involving a semi-truck killed 17 cows in south Calgary during the evening of Tuesday (Oct. 22).
According to a news release from police, the crash took place after 8 p.m. near Stoney Trail S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E. when a semi-truck lost control and tipped over while travelling on an off-ramp.
Around 95 cattle were in the vehicle, and members of Calgary police, firefighters, RCMP, highway road crews, cattle rustlers, and a veterinarian rescued the cows from the semi-trailer.
"During the rescue, three cattle escaped the trailer and proceeded to hoof it toward the south end of the Macleod Trail and Stoney Trail interchange, creating a public safety concern," wrote police.
Officers said it took around two hours to corral the animals.

However, police do not consider alcohol or drugs to be involved in the crash.
