The longtime MLA for Rosetown-Delisle touts his experience in cabinet as he seeks reelection on Monday.
Jim Reiter has been an MLA since 2007 and in cabinet since 2009.
"I've been fortunate," Reiter said. "I've been part of this government since 2007. I've been in cabinet since 2009, so you know I've had the opportunity to say my piece in most decisions that the government has made.
"You know our premier is very open to open discussions in cabinet and caucus. We all get an opportunity to voice our opinions and then we collectively arrive at decisions."
Reiter entered provincial politics at a time when he felt it was tougher to keep people in Saskatchewan.
"I want to make Saskatchewan a better place to live," he said. "One of the main reasons I first ran in 2007 was because I saw the opportunity going elsewhere. When I was younger, all my friends ended up moving to Alberta because that's where the jobs were. Then as I got older, all my nieces and nephews and my friends' kids were moving to Alberta because that's where the opportunities were. I'm proud to have been part of the government that's helped to turn that around. We want to continue advancing our economy to make those opportunities available here in Saskatchewan."
Reiter has an extensive cabinet history that includes time as Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Government Relations, First Nations, Metis, and Northern Affairs, Minister of Health, SaskBuilds and Procurement, Minister Responsible for the Public Service Commission, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and most recently Minister of Energy and Resources.
He feels the Saskatchewan Party has a comprehensive plan for the province if they remain in power.
"We've unveiled our entire platform right now," Reiter said. "I'm pretty proud of that. We're pretty widespread on affordability and trying to get more money back into people's own pockets. We're reducing income tax; it's going to save families and citizens and seniors in the province. There's been some work we've done on recruiting and healthcare that I'm proud of as well. Also significant increase in funding for education. So pretty proud of the platform that we've put forward."
As an MLA and candidate in rural Saskatchewan he has had to put a lot of time in travelling during the election.
"I've been all over the constituency," Reiter said. "I'll tell you geographically, it's a huge constituency. The boundaries have changed since last time, so I've had an opportunity to talk to a lot of fantastic people again. With the geography as large as it is, sometimes it ends up being phone calls, but as much as I could have been tried to be n all corners of the constituency."
Reiter's opponents in Rosetown-Delisle are Brenda Edel of the NDP and Green Party candidate Sean Muirhead.
