The spirit of the season came upon the artistically inclined folks who came to the Humboldt Gallery on Saturday for a round of decoration crafting.
Michelle Pelletier led artists in a couple of endeavours. First was a cleverly designed wreath of rags. More appropriately, those wreaths are fashioned out of eight-inch strips of cloth tied around metal frames, woven together in decorative designs. Once the artists caught on to the technique, the idea was to create a wreath to take home and one to leave as a donation to the Friends of the Festival Auction, coming up in November.
The former Festival of Wreaths has gone through a rebranding given the size and scope of the artistry and community donations for the fundraiser. The spirit is still the same in spite of the name change. Community members and local businesses can donate goods to the Friends of the Festival Auction with all of the proceeds going to support programming at the Museum through the Friends of the Museum organization.
The other craft going on during the Saturday session was something called “dot” ornaments. By adorning glass ornaments with dots of different sizes, colours and configurations, marvellous artistic creations came to life, each one a unique reflection of the artist’s imagination.
Pelletier called the designs “mandala” art, after the geometric configuration of symbols that sometimes have spiritual significance.
Enjoy a quick peek at some of the fruits of the labours in progress. You can head into the Gallery during the upcoming Friends of the Festival Auction and see some of the finished products up for bids.
