On May 25, 2024, at 4:14 p.m., Fairview RCMP received a call that four bear hunters had located a body that had been disposed of in a remote area. The RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) attended and took carriage of the investigation, with the assistance of Fairview RCMP. On May 27, 2024, an autopsy was conducted and the manner of death was deemed to be a homicide.
On May 28, the deceased was identified as Wilfred REVER (54), a resident of Manning, Alta. MCU transitioned the investigation to Peace River and with the assistance of Peace River RCMP continued to investigate the file.
On Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, 2024, RCMP MCU arrested four individuals for the murder of Wilfred Rever.
Brooke Burton (44), a resident of Manning, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.
Christopher Valin (32), a resident of Berwyn, was charged with Second Degree Murder.
Glenn Whitney (57), a resident of Fairview, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.
Guy Valin (57), a resident of Berwyn, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder and Indignity to a Body.
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, all four accused have been remanded into custody. They will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on Oct. 28, 2024, via CCTV.
