With polls showing the Saskatchewan Party and Saskatchewan NDP neck and neck in the provincial election, tonight's results will need to be closely watched to see who comes out on top.
For the NDP, they currently hold 14 seats, all of which are projected to be safe on election day. The NDP does also have a likelihood of grabbing an extra 13 ridings which were within a 25 point gap last election.
While the last election had the Saskatchewan Party win by 29 points, polls have shown that lead could be erased tonight. All 13 of the NDP's potential seats are mainly urban, though some do have rural areas.
Even with those 27 seats locked up, the Sask NDP would then need to grab 4 more seats in order to form a majority government.
The Saskatchewan Party has a much clearer path to victory, with 24 seats held by a 40-point lead during the last election. These are likely to remain safe with the Sask Party only needing seven seats to win.
Between the two parties, the outcome is likely to be decided in 10 mostly rural ridings which the Saskatchewan Party won during the last election between 25 and 40 point margins. A very close count for some of these ridings may mean that election watchers will need to keep an eye on the vote total for a while.
While the results of the first vote will be announced following the close of voting at 8 p.m., Elections Saskatchewan reminds people that the vote will be counted again on October 30th and November 9th, with the final count being the one where the winner is officially announced.
