Josh Lovelace, the keyboard and harmonica player in the Christian rock band Needtobreathe, is releasing a solo album titled Shelters.
The album contains 11 tracks and covers a multitude of genres and themes.
"After 3+ years of writing and recording, I can honestly say that I poured my heart and soul into this record," says Lovelace on social media. "I tried to be as honest as I could, and share a part of my life experience that I’ve never shared before. For me, I felt like I needed to do that in order to accept and celebrate who I am today."
When describing one of the singles, "Lovelight," Lovelace says, "It’s a really fun pop song that hopefully reminds us all that we need each other. Even when we can’t see it sometimes, there are people around us who will carry the torch and be a light for us in the dark."
Lovelace isn't the only band member that has branched out into solo projects. Lead singer Bear Rinehart continues to put out music under the name Wilder Woods. Working on Shelters with Lovelace is Needtobreathe member Tyler Burkum.
"You can’t just automatically change and be who you want to be. It’s a process. That’s what this record is all about," says Lovelace. "It’s me forgiving myself and giving myself some grace for not having it all figured out quite yet."
To celebrate the release of this album, Lovelace threw an album release party in his hometown on Oct. 27 at Knoxville’s Open Chord Stage.
"This record feels like a conversation in a lot of ways and it would be my honor to sit and chat with you."
