A construction worker who was robbed, shot, and left for dead last week remains in a Saskatoon hospital awaiting further surgeries as he begins a long road to recovery.
Early on Oct. 24, Orlan Peterson was working alone on White Star Road, roughly 14 kilometres north of Prince Albert, when a group of armed suspects entered the property, shot him, robbed him, and stole his work truck.
Peterson’s friend, Brad Grolla, has since created an online fundraising page to support Peterson. Grolla explained that Peterson was rushed to Saskatoon for treatment about an hour and a half after the incident and remains there, with additional surgeries still required.
The attack has left Peterson with life-altering injuries, potentially preventing him from ever returning to work, according to the GoFundMe page, which had raised over $61,600 as of Monday morning.
“As a result of the gunshot wound, Orlan’s life will never be the same,” the page reads. “It is unknown at this time how physically incapacitated he will be… his mental health will no doubt need much healing from the fear he endured.”
Grolla says the fundraiser will help cover travel expenses, fuel, meals, and lodging for Peterson and his family, who live two hours away from the medical specialists now monitoring his recovery.
Following the attack, Saskatchewan RCMP issued an emergency alert, leading to the arrest of two suspects by Thursday evening. Melissa McCallum, 18, from La Ronge, and Angus Heathen, 33, from Prince Albert, face several assault and weapons-related charges.
RCMP provided an update Friday afternoon, stating that two additional suspects remain at large as the investigation continues.
