Steinbach Regional gave up 21 first half points and lost 29-21 to the Vincent Massey Vikings in the Winnipeg High School Football League's JV9 semifinal at East Side Eagles field. Owen Medeiros took a screen pass 97 yards for the Sabres first touchdown. Pavel Tsialipka scored on a six-yard run early in the third quarter and Kaynen Hruda caught a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter for Steinbach Regional's final major of the season. 


Steinbach Regional dropped a 4-1 decision to the St. Paul's Crusaders at the T.G. Smith Arena. Ryder Chabot had the lone goal for the Sabres who have a 1-2 record in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League's Platinum Promotions Division. SRSS goaltender Kash Amor faced 19 shots. The Sabres next game is against the J.H. Bruns Broncos Friday at the Southdale Arena. 


Mark Plett scored twice and Hunter Fehr stopped all 19 shots he faced in recording the shutout as the Mitchell Mustangs defeated Ste. Anne 5-0 in the lone Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League game. Theo Koop, Colton Wiebe and Ryan Donahoe also scored for the Mustangs. Jack Seniuk made 27 saves in net for the Aces who saw their three-game win streak come to an end.


Neal Pionk scored twice and Kyle Connor had a goal and two assists in the Winnipeg Jets 6-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Gabriel Vilardi, Nino Niederreiter and Colin Miller also scored for the Jets. Connor recorded his 500th career NHL point and extended his franchise record season-opening point streak to 10 games. 


Rachel Homan and Brad Gushue are both 6-0 and will wrap up the round robin today at the Pan Continental Curling Championships in Lacombe, Alberta. Team Gushue defeated Australia’s Team Hugh Millikin 13-8 while Team Homan beat South Korea’s Team Eunji Gim 8-2 and Adriana Camarena of Mexico 10-1. The top four countries in the men's and women's field qualify for next year's world championships, although Canada has an automatic berth as the host country of the men's championship in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.


Chris Morris is the new president and chief executive of the Edmonton Elks. Morris was an offensive lineman with Edmonton from 1992 to 2005 and won Grey Cup titles with the CFL team in 1993, 2003 and 2005. One of his first jobs will be deciding the futures of general manager Geroy Simon and head coach Jarious Jackson.

Steinbach will play 11 games in November with eight of those on the road. Head coach Paul Dyck will join Clayton Dreger on the Pistons Report which airs Thursdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
