It is with heavy hearts that the family of Shirley Anne Pohl (née: Bowen) announce her passing on Friday, October 25th, 2024, with her family by her side.  Shirley was born July 7th, 1944, to Harlan and Mary Bowen (née: Boyce) in Regina, Saskatchewan.  On October 10th, 1945, she welcomed her brother Gordon Wayne Bowen. 

Shirley was raised in Regina, SK, and at the age of 15, met her sweetheart Dwight Pohl and they married on October 9th, 1965.  Immediately after their wedding, they went to reside in Calgary, Alberta.  They welcomed their first child, Leann Marie Pohl, on December 25th, 1972, and later on August 30th, 1975, their second daughter, Melissa Nicole Pohl was welcomed. 

Shirley worked as a secretary for the Toronto Dominion Bank and then later for the Calgary Board of Education.  While living in Calgary, Shirley enjoyed time with friends and neighbors, and raising her family.  In 1989 Shirley and Dwight moved the girls to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to finish out their careers and retire.  On June 29th, 1996, Shirley and Dwight welcomed their son-in-law, Allan Bruce Ferguson, to the family, and later their grandchildren, Braiden Dwight Ferguson on January 13th, 2000, and Ashlyn Rachel Ferguson on February 11th, 2001.  The grandchildren were their pride and joy, and they always cherished their visits and countless phone calls. 

In Shirley’s spare time she loved reading, enjoyed long phone conversations with her best friend Nancy Hopper of Calgary, and watching Dateline, Law & Order and Chicago Med. 

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Dwight; daughters, Leann (Allan) Ferguson of Moose Jaw, SK and Melissa Pohl of Moose Jaw, SK; grandson, Braiden Ferguson of Saskatoon, SK; granddaughter, Ashlyn Ferguson (Zachary Moore) of Regina, SK; and brother, Gordon (Donna) Bowen of Regina, SK.  She also leaves to mourn, her nieces: Megan Bowen (Mathew and Max Crow) of Regina, Erin and Jeff Williamson of Black Diamond, AB, Kim and Guisti Tomsich of Vancouver, BC.

The family would like to thank all of Shirley’s palliative home care team, especially her special nurse Cathy Stewart, for all her care and support.
