Q: Why are you running for mayor/council?
A: I am running for city council because I believe that every resident of Moose Jaw deserves a chance to thrive. This community has immense potential, and I am committed to working alongside residents to address the core issues that hold us back. By listening to the people, I aim to support solutions that create a safer, more vibrant, and inclusive Moose Jaw where everyone can succeed.
Q: Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics?
A: Yes, I have served my community in various roles, including mental health advocacy, youth empowerment, and remedial measures programs for low-risk first-time offenders. My experience also includes support for those struggling with alcohol/drug addiction and relapse prevention, helping individuals navigate their recovery journeys and build resilience. Additionally, I have over 17 years of experience as a small business owner, which has given me insight into the challenges and opportunities that local businesses face. My advocacy work has also focused on supporting vulnerable individuals, such as victims of domestic violence and those needing emergency housing.
Q: Do you think experience matters one way or another?
A: Yes, experience matters, but so does a fresh perspective. As a new resident of Moose Jaw, I bring both lived and shared experiences that connect me to the community’s challenges and potential. I am here to learn from residents, listen to their stories, and understand the barriers they face. My goal is to work collaboratively with council and community members to break down those barriers and make Moose Jaw a place where everyone can thrive.
Q: What topic/policy issue/incident was the tipping point for you?
A: The abrupt closure of the Riverside Mission and the visible homelessness issue in the downtown area were key tipping points. These issues impact not only the safety of residents but also the vibrancy of our downtown and beautiful spaces like Crescent Park. I believe we can find ways to address homelessness compassionately, ensuring safe shelter for all while revitalizing the downtown area. Additionally, I've heard from business owners about tax and policy challenges that are hindering growth and economic development. I want to work with council to address these issues so we can build a more prosperous Moose Jaw.
Q: What criticisms do you have, if any, for the politics you've seen over the last two or three years?
A: Over the past year, I've observed that decisions made at the council level may not always fully align with the needs and concerns of Moose Jaw residents. There seems to be a gap in effective communication and a lack of action on pressing issues like homelessness, mental health support, and business development. I believe that by prioritizing open dialogue, transparency, and accountability, we can make decisions that better reflect the community's needs.
Q: What is your plan to compromise/cooperate with fellow council members to accomplish policy goals?
A: My plan is to approach each issue with an open mind and a collaborative spirit. I am committed to listening to diverse perspectives, finding common ground, and focusing on solutions that serve the best interests of our community. Building consensus with fellow council members will be essential to achieving meaningful progress. I aim to foster a respectful, solution-focused environment that allows us to address our shared goals effectively.

A: What I want voters to know is that I am deeply committed to serving the people of Moose Jaw. After moving here in 2023, I was drawn to this community’s vibrant spirit and potential. My experience in mental health, youth empowerment, and supporting vulnerable people shapes my dedication to addressing the needs of our city. As a mother, former foster and adoptive parent, caregiver, and business owner, I understand the challenges our residents face. I’m ready to work with local leaders and community members to create a more inclusive, supportive Moose Jaw for everyone.
Q: In the interests of transparency, are you coordinating or do you share an association with any other candidates, in any way whatsoever?
A: Yes, I am running as part of the Moose Jaw Vitality Team, a group of four residents who care deeply about this community. We are committed to listening to the concerns of residents and business owners and working collaboratively with the council and mayor to make Moose Jaw the best it can be. Our shared vision is to bring fresh perspectives and positive change to our city.
