Steinbach Regional edged the J.H. Bruns Broncos 2-1 at the Southdale Arena. Rhys Guenther and Hunter Plett did the goal scoring for the Sabres who improved to 2-2 in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League’s Platinum Promotion Division.


Brett Kaiser had a three-point night with a goal and two assists and Christian Green made 34 saves in the Steinbach Pistons 5-1 victory over the Selkirk Steelers. Sam Noad, Ty Paisley, Connor Paronuzzi and James Fuchs also scored for the Pistons who moved within two points of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s East Division leading Steelers. Steinbach does have three games in hand on Selkirk.


The Mitchell Mustangs, Springfield Xtreme and Macdonald Swarm were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League. Mark Plett had two goals and an assist as the Mustangs downed the Niverville Clippers 4-2. The Xtreme blanked the Ste. Anne Aces 5-0 as Dylan Kizlik recorded his third shutout of the season. Andrew Thompson and Carson Park scored two goals each as the Swarm downed the Red River Mudbugs 6-3


Damon Johnson and Logan Fillion scored three goals each and the defending Capital Region Junior Hockey League champion St. Malo Warriors bounced the Arborg Ice Dawgs 12-1. Clint Thomas and Evan Leeson had two goals each as the first place Beausejour Comets beat the North Winnipeg Satelites 7-1.


The Carman Beavers and Red River Wild were winners in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League Friday night. Marcus Sekundiak potted the winner on the power play 2:04 into overtime to lift the Beavers past the Ile des Chenes Northstars 4-3. Noah Skorpad, Dane Halstead and Everett Bestland scored in regulation for Carman. Tyler Swerdyliak had a pair of goals for the Northstars. Brent Wold had the other Ile des Chenes goal. Geordie Keane scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Wild past the Winkler Royals 4-3. T.J. Matuszewski had scored twice in regulation for Red River. Tyler Anderson had the other Wild goal. Justin Augert, James Penner and Aaron Lewadniuk replied for the Royals.


Nikolaj Ehlers had three goals and an assist in the Winnipeg Jets 6-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Mason Appleton, Josh Morrissey and Gabriel Vilardi also scored for the Jets who have won 10 of their first 11 games.


The Manitoba Moose lost 4-2 to Milwaukee. Reid Schaefer had a pair of goals for the visiting Admirals. Nikita Chibrikov and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby did the goal scoring for the Moose.


Canada’s Rachel Homan will meet Eunji Gim of South Korea in the women’s gold medal game at the 2024 Pan Continental Curling Championships in Lacombe, Alberta. Homan, vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew and lead Sarah Wilkes defeated China’s Rui Wang 6-5 in an extra end in the semifinals. Canada’s Brad Gushue lost 10-8 to John Shuster of the United States in the men’s bronze medal game.
