The wife of a missionary recently killed in Africa has been arrested in connection to her husband's death.
44-year-old Beau Shroyer was killed on Oct. 25, 2024, in an act of violence while serving Jesus in a remote area of Angola, Africa.
Lakes Area Vineyard Church says in a statement they were heartbroken to learn of the turn of events.
"Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, I’m going to ask you to sit down, take a deep breath and remember that God is our ever-present help in times of trouble," said Pastor Troy Easton of Lakes Area Vineyard Church."Our grief and sadness have deepened immeasurably as we’ve learned that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been arrested in connection with his death."
The church says they do not have the words to express their disbelief and sorrow about this news.
"What I can tell you is that the Shroyer children are well cared for and we will work alongside SIM USA and SIM Angola to ensure that continues to be the case," said Pastor Troy.
Lakes Area Vineyard Church is asking the community to respect the family's privacy and to use caution when communicating about this.
"As a community, we must cry out to the Lord for his grace, mercy and comforting presence for the Shroyer children and family. We are preparing to engage as needed and will simply point back to this statement for all inquiries for information."
Before becoming a missionary, Shroyer worked as a police officer with the Detroit Lakes Police Department. He joined the team in 2013. Beau eventually shifted careers becoming a real estate agent before deciding in 2021 to relocate to Africa with his wife and their five children to become a first-time missionary.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.
