Alberta Health Services wrapped up the final launch of Connect Care, bringing together more than 11,000 additional staff and physicians at 155 AHS and AHS partner sites and locations onto the system.

According to a news release, Connect Care is the only health organization in Canada with a clinical information system.

"AHS has the lowest cost per user to operate the system when compared to other clients of the software vendor, Epic Systems, who are of a similar scale to AHS. Connect Care gives healthcare providers more tools to support their patients at almost half the cost per user of the systems AHS had previously in place. It also supports the desire of Albertans to have access to their health information," wrote AHS.

The system is now online across all AHS sites in Alberta including Community Care, and Home Care sites across the Edmonton, North, Calgary, Central, and South zones. The Calgary zone includes Strathmore and Chestermere. As well as Population Public Health sites across Calgary, Edmonton, Central, and North zones along with Health Link's 13 provincial programs.

It also includes ambulatory clinics and bone and joint clinics in several zones including Calgary, 10 Correctional Health Services facilities across all five zones, 12 CapitalCare facilities, and five Covenant Health sites in the Edmonton zone.

AHS mentioned the initiative also supports health records, which can be accessed through the system.

"Through Alberta’s MyHealth Records, Albertans have access to MyAHS Connect, an online patient portal where people can see their health information, test results, and medications; manage appointments; and communicate securely with their AHS healthcare team," added AHS.

There are more than 125,000 staff, doctors, and healthcare workers using Connect Care at more than 1,000 sites around all five AHS zones.
