All highways in the Winnipeg region are now reopened after thick fog and slippery road conditions led to a treacherous Wednesday morning commute.
Many of the collisions occurred on bridges or overpasses where cooler air below these structures causes slick surfaces, especially when conditions are around the freezing mark and damp.

Highway 1 crash near St. Francis Xavier
The eastbound lanes of Highway 1 west of Winnipeg were closed for nearly 9 hours. As of 5:17 p.m. all lanes are open again.
Unconfirmed reports from social media say a semi-trailer was involved in a collision on the Assiniboine River Bridge near St. Francis Xavier, and it fell into or near the river below.
The highway was closed since 7:54 a.m.
West Perimeter overpass crash
The first serious collision happened just before 7 a.m. on the West Perimeter overpass of Highway 221.
The southbound passing lane was closed until 7:56 a.m. while emergency personnel responded.
Highway 59 crash on Floodway bridge
Just a few moments after the collision on the Perimeter another collision occurred on the southbound lanes of Highway 59 on the Floodway bridge according to witnesses.
RCMP have now confirmed one man was killed in what became a 19-car pileup.
The southbound lanes were closed from Wenzel Road to Garven Road for three hours while crews responded and police investigated.
Many witnesses reported being stuck in traffic for over an hour while emergency crews responded and the scene was cleared.
The highway was reopened to traffic three hours later.
East Perimeter overpass crash
There was also another report of several vehicles involved in a collision on the East Perimeter overpass of Highway 1.
That collision resulted in traffic being backed up on Highway 15 all the way from the community of Dugald to the East Perimeter Highway.
There is no word on injuries in any of the collisions at this time.
