Three Saskatchewan Credit Unions—Prairie Centre Credit Union, Diamond North Credit Union, and Cypress Credit Union—are merging to create Prosperity Credit Union, set to launch on January 1, 2025.
The merger, approved by members of all three credit unions, will bring the organizations together under a new name and vision focused on the financial well-being of their members and the prosperity of rural Saskatchewan.
"Prosperity Credit Union embodies the essence of our new credit union and our longstanding commitment to our members and Saskatchewan," said Greg Hannay, Board Chair of Prairie Centre Credit Union. "The name, Prosperity Credit Union, is about our commitment to the financial well-being and prosperity of our members and communities."
Blair Wingert, CEO of Prairie Centre Credit Union, is optimistic about the future following the member vote. "What’s going to happen now is the leadership groups of the three credit unions will start to build an integration plan at bringing our three organizations together."
The new credit union’s rebranding is already underway, with a new name and logo inspired by nature and the land. Prosperity Credit Union’s updated branding will begin appearing across its 30 branches and digital platforms throughout 2025.
"We’re hoping is that our members don’t see any huge significant changes," Wingert added. "We just continue to offer the high-level service that they’ve come to expect in all three of our organizations."
The main office for mailing purposes will be located in Rosetown, but the credit union will operate with a decentralized head office structure.
"Another thing that’s been really important is that we don’t want to bring all of the jobs to one centre," Wingert explained. "It’s been important that we’re employing people across all of our communities and across rural Saskatchewan."
Greg Pagan, Board Chair of Diamond North Credit Union, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of community connections. "We believe a strong community is the best investment we can make," Pagan said. "This credit union will strengthen relationships with our members and communities."
"It is an exciting time for our members and employees as our merger comes to life with this identity and name," said Kelly Bakanec, Board Chair of Cypress Credit Union. "Working together with our members and communities, Prosperity Credit Union will drive rural prosperity in Saskatchewan."
