The City of Humboldt has announced that Penny Lee’s employment with the city has ended.
In a release, the city said they found that Lee's personal views on certain matters no longer align with her role and duties with the city, and it was concluded that her employment with the city should come to an end
Also in the release, the City of Humboldt highlighted Lee's contribution to the community, saying she was instrumental in advancing communications protocols and initiatives to market Humboldt to its residents and potential developers. They added that Lee presented a positive image of Humboldt, particularly in the immediate aftermath of the Broncos tragedy and in the years that followed.
They noted, Lee spearheaded several key initiatives, including the development of the ‘Heart of It All’ campaign, the creation of more engaging and meaningful annual reports, the expansion of media communications, and the transition of City Council meetings to an online streaming platform.
The City of Humboldt extended appreciation for Lee's years of dedicated service and wished her the best in her future endeavors.
When asked to elaborate on the nature of the departure City Manager Joe Day said, "Penny engaged in some personal communication wherein she expressed views and a position that did not align with the City’s expectations for somebody in a senior management role, and it was ultimately determined that her employment with the City should come to an end."
