Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge will travel to Anchorage, Alaska to discuss Alberta's economic trade corridors and supply chains with United States officials.

According to a news release from the Alberta government, Shane Getson, parliamentary secretary for Economic Corridor Development, and Chelsea Petrovic, MLA for Livingstone-Macleod will join de Jonge at the PNWER Economic Leadership Forum starting November 12.

"MLAs will focus on promoting the importance of integrated economic corridors and supply chains across the Pacific Northwest region and beyond, and how they contribute to the mutually beneficial growth and security of both Canadian and American economies," wrote the province.

"They will also profile Alberta as a partner of choice in responsible energy development and emissions reduction, and identify new areas of opportunity for collaboration and enhanced energy infrastructure that will bring even more Alberta-made energy products to the U.S."

The provincial government says the trip will help strengthen relationships from previous meetings in Whistler, British Columbia in July when de Jonge, Petrovic, and Getson joined more than 600 officials from the U.S. and Canada at the 33rd PNWER Annual Summit.

“The United States is Alberta's most important friend, ally, and trading partner, and this forum provides an excellent platform to strengthen those critical relationships with state legislators," says de Jonge.

The three MLAs will also take part in the Resource Development Council's 45th Annual Alaska Resources Conference from Nov. 13 to 14 to showcase the importance of economic ties between Canada and the United States and discuss ways to reduce emissions while advocating for responsible energy.

"The Resource Development Council is a trade association representing Alaska’s fishing, forestry, mining, oil and gas, and tourism industries that focuses on promoting responsible resource development in the region," added the province.

In 2023, Albert and PNWER U.S. member states bilateral trade numbers totalled $25.7 billion.

Travel expenses for the trip will be posted here.
