The Steinbach Regional varsity boys & girls and junior varsity girls volleyball teams won their South Central Athletic Conference AAAA quarterfinals Friday night at the SRSS. All three Sabres teams swept the Windsor Park Royals. The varsity boys defeated Windsor Park 25-15, 25-18, 25-6; the varsity girls beat the Royals 25-9, 25-11, 25-12 while the junior varsity girls knocked off Windsor Park 25-11, 25-17, 25-10. The Steinbach Regional junior varsity boys finished first and earned a bye to the semifinals.


Ty Paisley scored his second goal of the game 3:29 into overtime to lift the Steinbach Pistons past the Dauphin Kings 4-3 at Credit Union Place. Brody Green and James Fuchs also scored for the Pistons (13-2-1) who have won six in a row and moved into sole possession of first place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s East Division. Matteo Speranza scored twice as the Niverville Nighthawks beat the Swan Valley Stampeders 5-3.


The La Broquerie Habs dropped an 8-7 decision to the Lundar Falcons at the HyLife Centre. Colton Pakoo scored twice and Calem Normandeau had a goal and three assists for the Habs. La Broquerie trailed 3-0 after the first period and 5-3 after forty minutes.


The Ste. Anne Aces, Mitchell Mustangs and Niverville Clippers were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Friday night. Tristan Thomas scored 2:07 into overtime to lift the Aces past the Steinbach Huskies 3-2. Carter Zilinsky made 35 saves, and the Mustangs downed the Red River Mudbugs 5-2. Mason Hooper scored twice in the Clippers 6-4 victory over the Landmark Blues.


Team Manitoba lost 8-6 to Team Atlantic in the 7th place game at the 2024 U18 Women’s National Hockey Championship in Quispamsis, New Brunswick. La Salle’s Kate Manness had three assists for Team Manitoba.


Joby Baumuller had two goals and an assist, and the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Pats 5-3 in Regina. Caleb Hadland, Carter Klippenstein and Matteo Michels also scored for the Wheat Kings who are riding a six-game points streak.


The Winnipeg Jets wrap up their four-game homestand today (2 p.m.) when they meet the Dallas Stars at Canada Life Centre. The Jets have won 13 of their first 14 games.


Chloe Primerano scored the shootout winner as Canada's National Women's Hockey Team defeated the United States 5-4 in the second game of the Rivalry Series in West Valley City, Utah. Laura Stacey had a pair of goals in regulation while Emma Maltais and Marie-Philip Poulin with a shorthanded effort also scored for the Canadians. Game three goes Sunday in Boise, Idaho.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Saskatchewan Roughriders today in the CFL’s West Division final. The opening kick-off at Princess Auto Stadium is 5:30 p.m. The Bombers have made four changes on defense. On are safety Brandon Alexander, defensive end Celestin Haba, defensive back Nick Taylor and linebacker Kyrie Wilson. Wilson is a game-time decision. Winnipeg has won its last five home division finals (2023, 2022, 2021, 2011 & 2001).


Ryan Wiebe, Shaela Hayward, Ty Dilello and Jennifer Clark-Rouire will meet Owen Purcell of Nova Scotia in the semifinals at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario. The Manitoba champions lost a pair of games Friday and finished in third place in the Championship Pool. Team Wiebe fell 9-2 to Purcell and 6-5 to Jason Ackerman of Saskatchewan. Ackerman will face Kurt Balderston of Alberta in the other semifinal.
