Moose Jaw’s three local Tim Horton’s franchises will donate the proceeds of their annual Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign to support the work of non-profit Hunger in Moose Jaw from Nov. 18 to 24.
Each cookie will cost $1.50, and purchases of six or more cookies will be tax-free. The proceeds will be split 50-50 between Hunger in Moose Jaw and the Tim Horton’s Foundation.
“I think Tim Horton’s does a really great job out in the community,” explained franchisee Aurora Howe. “We were looking for something in the back half of the year to give back to the community, and the Holiday Smile Cookie is what we settled on.
“So, a little bit different from the original campaign, and this one is more of, like, a red-and-green sugar cookie to get everybody in the festive spirit and give back to charity at the same time.”
Howe hopes most of the orders will be in bulk to workplaces and other organizations. The regular Smile Cookie campaign early this year raised over $30,000 for the benefit of Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw.
Orders can be placed online at timhortons.ca/holiday-smile-cookie-biscuit-sourire-des-fetes.
“For the regular Smile Cookie campaign, it’s a little bit different in that 100 per cent of the funds go to the charity we’ve chosen,” she explained. “The Holiday Smile Cookie, the proceeds are split 50-50 between the charity of our choosing and the Tim Horton’s Foundation Camps.”
This campaign on behalf of Hunger in Moose Jaw will help buy nutritious lunches for underprivileged students at schools in and around Moose Jaw.
“Anyone who wants to help can stop by the restaurant and pick up their cookies during the 18th to the 24th, and if anybody is looking to purchase bulk orders, we would highly recommend calling the restaurants ahead of time to get the order in so there’s no waiting around once they arrive,” Howe added.
More than 450 children receive a school lunch every single weekday during the school year because of Hunger in Moose Jaw’s School Nutrition Program. The meals are prepared and delivered by volunteers.
