Drumheller RCMP has reopened Highway 9 near Highway 836, northeast of Airdrie, following a fatal collision earlier this morning.

After 7:00 a.m., RCMP, three local fire departments, and EMS responded to a head-on collision involving a detached semi-truck and a sedan. The incident led to a temporary highway shutdown for several hours as the RCMP Collision Analyst Team conducted a detailed investigation on the scene.

A man from Carbon, Alberta, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the man was the sole occupant in the sedan during the collision.

The driver of the semi-truck suffered minor injuries, was treated at the scene, and later released, while the two other injured passengers had sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The Drumheller RCMP extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
