Manitoba RCMP is confirming details of Friday evening’s fatal collision west of Altona.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, at the intersection of Provincial Roads 201 and 306, around 7:05 p.m.

In a news release issued early Saturday afternoon, RCMP said the investigation determined a semi heading east on PR 201 failed to stop at the intersection with PR 306 and collided with a southbound SUV.

The 35-year-old woman driving the SUV, from the Municipality of Rhineland, was pronounced deceased on-scene.

Her 8-year-old daughter, a passenger in the vehicle, was flown to Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg via STARS Air Ambulance with life-threatening injuries which police say she later succumbed to.

The 25-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer, from Brampton, Ontario, was brought to hospital where he was treated and released.

Pembina Valley RCMP continue to investigate and charges are anticipated.
