The Wheatland Society of Arts held its first-annual Art and Pottery Show and Sale over the weekend.

The show and sale took place at the society's location on Third Avenue in Strathmore and featured work by many of the artists that reside there.

Nancy-lynne Hughes, an artist and instructor with the society, said that the event had been in the works for months.

"I saw such a wonderful opportunity to help people expose the wonderful work that they do here, and also what the society offers in the way of instruction," said Hughes. "This is a really strong show."

It was a successful event for local artists, with dozens of residents making it out to the Show and Sale.

The pieces for sale at the show varied in medium and subject matter, from abstract ink patterns to paverpol statues. Hughes' work featured paintings of nature from around Wheatland County.

"I think our local landscape brings non-stop inspiration," added Hughes. "My paintings are all real locations that I've been to. I don't make anything up."

According to Hughes, the event was a massive success with the show being 'very busy' throughout the weekend as curious residents visited to purchase some local art.

"We have spoken very casually about possibly making it an annual event."

The Show and Sale began with a gala on Friday night, and the showcase was set up on Saturday and Sunday.
