As a strong storm system arrives in Southern Manitoba bringing rain, snow, strong winds and reduced visibility in blowing snow over the next few days, motorists are being urged to adjust their driving for winter road conditions.

Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation is also stressing the importance of remaining alert when following or approaching oncoming snowplows on any of the 19,000 kilometers of highway the department is responsible for maintaining.

With a fleet of 340 truck plows, de-icing equipment and motor graders, the department says all provincial highways are inspected regularly during winter to determine if action is needed and to provide current information on road conditions for motorists.

All equipment operates with flashing blue warning lights and the Province says drivers should stay well back of them, do not try to pass a snowplow at any time while it is operating and to slow down when they are approaching

Travellers are also encouraged to consult current road conditions before making the decision to head out.

All of that up-to-date information can be found on our Road Report and Cancellations page.
