It was another successful year for the Strathmore Municipal Library's Cat Cafe, which took place on Saturday (Nov. 16).
The event, which is in partnership with Happy Cat Sanctuary, brought around 100 people to take part. Each person got a few minutes to snuggle with the eight cats who were up for adoption.
"Everybody really liked it," said Audrey Riess, a volunteer with the sanctuary. "Some people waited about an hour or so because we could bring in about eight or nine people because kittens like to get under people's feet."
Many of the cats at the event found themselves a forever home at the cafe, which also featured cat-themed cookies and stickers for residents to purchase, with all proceeds going towards the library and the sanctuary.
"We didn't actually charge for people to come in, it was all through donations," added Riess. "We raised around $300 that day."
Happy Cat was also selling hand-knit catnip balls for attendees to use as well, which proved to be quite popular amongst visitors.
"The money goes right into our adoption facility. We feed the cats and pay for everything - their vaccinations, spaying and neutering them, they're well cared for."
Riess, who has been volunteering for two years, said she was honoured to be a part of the event.
"It's a very wonderful organization, and I really enjoy helping them. The Town of Strathmore needed something like this for our cats."
The Cat Cafe launched in 2022, with this being the fourth event hosted in the library.
