Old Man Winter appears to have made good time settling into Southern Manitoba

With heavy, wet snow layering our streets, some of you may be wondering what this means for your community's parking ban.

In Winkler, staff are clearing the main roads, however, a parking ban won't be implemented at this time.

In Morden, the parking ban has been in effect since Oct 1. Here is a statement from the City of Morden website:

"Each year the “Overnight Parking Ban” takes effect on October 1 through April 30 and everyone is asked not to park on the streets between the hours of 12:00 Midnight and 8:00 AM."

Sanding has taken place much of Wednesday and will continue on Thursday, according to Director of Operations Tim Reimer.

It's much the same in Altona, where residents won't be ticketed for parking on snow-filled streets at this time, but they are still being reminded not to do so for now, with snow clearing operations underway.

As well, town officials are pointing to a local by-law that prohibits private property owners from shoveling snow onto public roads, streets and lanes.
