The Junior B Agra Risk Wheatland Kings hockey team is asking for the community's help in its annual Christmas campaign, Shopping With the Kings.

The program pairs children with players for a holiday shopping spree on December 14. Kids can select toys and gifts for their loved ones, while their parents can pick up grocery store gift cards.

"It's times of the year like this which is why we are so proud to be a part of the organization," said Cody Holdaway, general manager of the Kings. "Last year, through the support of several different Lions Clubs and our corporate sponsors, we were able to raise just under $20,000, which in return gave 20 families in this town Christmas where they may not have had one otherwise."

This is the fourth year that the Kings have put on the private event, and they are asking the community for help to make it possible through financial donations, gift cards, and other contributions.

"Every donation brings us closer to ensuring no family in Strathmore goes without a Christmas this year," added Holdaway.

The Strathmore-based team works with local schools to pick children who need help during the holiday season. They will then invite the kids to the private event before the Kings players give a tour of the locker room before their home game that same night.

"If it's helping families, our sponsors are always ready to give."

Donation boxes will be available at the Kings Lounge at all home games until December 10. Organizations looking to contribute can also email the Kings at manager@wheatlandkings.com.
