At a recent Steinbach City Council meeting, the council took steps to correct the tender award amount for the design and engineering services of the Park Road West Sewer Force Main and Lift Station 1 Upgrade Project. The issue arose during the November 19th meeting, where an error was identified in the initially recommended award amount for consulting services.
City Manager Troy Warkentin explained that the initial bid of $529,789.89, awarded to Associated Engineering (Sask.) Ltd., was correct in terms of the winning consultant, but there was an error in numbers.
“The award to the individual consultant was correct, but the award amount was incorrect, but thankfully the award amount actually was lower," said Warkentin. He clarified that the corrected tender award amount should be $463,201.00, plus taxes.
Council members were quick to approve the correction.
Deputy Mayor Michael Zwaagstra moved the motion to correct the amount, noting, “The company remains the same, but the actual number is actually lower, which if you're going to have an error, it's certainly much better to have the error go in this direction.”
Zwaagstra emphasized the importance of ensuring that the correct amount was awarded, stating, “It’s important that we correct the awards so that we are awarding the correct amount, which in this case is just over $463,000.”
The corrected tender amount was approved by Council.
